The Committee on Tourism of the German Bundestag also held a meeting last month with the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization at the premises of Helexpo in Thessaloniki. During the meeting, the president of the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization, Yiannis Boutaris (center), requested the German delegation’s support for the Greek city’s candidacy as European Youth Capital 2014.

Reports say that unrest in Egypt and Tunisia should put Greece on track for a slightly better tourism season this year. The Culture and Tourism Ministry said it would renovate and transform the closed down hotel Acropole Palace (451 Patision and Averof Streets) into a cultural center in an effort to improve the National Archaeological Museum area in downtown Athens. In 1990, the Acropole Palace (today a listed building) was characterized by UNESCO as “a shining example of ArtNouveau architecture in Europe.”
