Cheaper Ferry Tickets This Summer
Coastal shipping tickets are expected to be at least 10 percent cheaper this summer as dues for third parties are to be eliminated from the price, Prime Minister George Papandreou announced last month at the 19th General Assembly of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE).
Extra charges for third parties have been imposed for years on ferry tickets and also include a 6.5 percent fee to the sailor pension fund (NAT).
According to reports, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Islands and Fisheries was also looking to abolish a fee charged on ferry tickets and given to porters that help ferry passengers with luggage. The specific service has not been provided to the public for years.
Reports said that if these extra charges are banished then ferry ticket prices could drop 12 to 14 percent.
