Some 2,000 amateur and professional athletes of all ages embraced the "Navarino Challenge 2016" sports tourism event in Messinia and Costa Navarino in Greece and participated in more than 15 activities from September 9 to 11.

Kalamata and Costa Navarino, in the Peloponnese region of Messinia, will host the "Navarino Challenge" marathon for the second year on 19-21 September. The event will led by the Greek-American ultramarathon runner Dean Karnazes and other great sport personalities.
Once again Greek and foreign ultramarathoners will follow the footsteps of ancient Athenian long distance runner Pheidippides and cross 246 kilometers from Athens to Sparta during the Spartathlon ultramarathon race to be held this year 26-27 September.
