Greece’s “Navarino Challenge” Marathon Coming Soon

navarino_challengeKalamata and Costa Navarino, in the Peloponnese region of Messinia, will host the “Navarino Challenge” marathon for the second year on 19-21 September. The event will led by the Greek-American ultramarathon runner Dean Karnazes and other great sport personalities.

On Saturday 20 September, runner enthusiasts will have the opportunity to take part in the 15km route that will take place in Kalamata, the capital of Messinia. There, participants will have the opportunity to run in the diverse and beautiful Messinian landscape under Taygetos Mountain and among the olive groves by the beach of Kalamata.

On Sunday 21 September, the races will take place at Costa Navarino. With Navarino Dunes as a starting point, a half-marathon (21.1km), a 5km route for running and dynamic walking) and a 1km route for children will be organized.

Running for a good cause

One of the top ultramarathon runners in the world and The North Face athlete, Greek-American Dean (Konstantinos) Karnazes will once again undertake the ambassador role of “Navarino Challenge” and this way contribute once again to raising awareness on the global issue of childhood obesity and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet. Dean, several Olympic medalists, Greek champions and all participating will all run together, for a good cause!

Also, Ford Motor Hellas will be on the support team of “Navarino Challenge” to spread the efforts of fighting against childhood obesity and promoting lifelong healthy eating and the message “Eat well, run well, live well” will run quickly and with safety throughout Greece.

“Navarino Challenge” will take place under the auspices of Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of Harokopio University of Athens and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
