Greek Airports See 9.7% Increase in Summer 2017 Passenger Traffic

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority on Thursday said that Greek airports saw a 9.7 percent increase in passenger traffic during the three summer months of 2017.

According to data, 25,757,432 passengers traveled in June, July and August in all airports in Greece, against 23,472,598 passengers in the summer months of 2016.

January-August

The authority also provided data on passenger traffic in Greek airports during the first eight months of the year. The data showed that a total of 40,345,923 passengers went through Greek airports during the January – August period, up by 9.3 percent compared to the same period in 2016 (36,924,530 passengers). Overall, 3,421,393 more passengers passed through Greek airports during January-August 2017, compared to the same period in 2016.

Moreover, the total number of flights to Greek airports during the January-August period amounted to 333,119 (of which 131,545 were domestic and 201,574 were international), showing a marginal increase of 0,9 percent (4.1 percent rise in international flights), compared to the corresponding period of 2016 when 330,057 flights were carried out.

According to the data, in August alone Greek airports saw 9,260,832 passengers travel through its doors, up 7.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. International arrivals to Greece in August increased by 7.5 percent to 3,548,461 passengers compared to August 2016 (3,301,970 arrivals).

The data also revealed that the airports of Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu had the largest passenger traffic for August.
