Santorini’s Athina Luxury Suites to Stay Open During Winter

Following a successful summer season, Athina Luxury Suites, a boutique hotel on the Greek island of Santorini, has decided to remain open to welcome travelers during the winter season.

A seasonal hospitality property, Athina Luxury Suites usually operates from May to November. This is the first time that the hotel will operate on a year-round basis.

According to the owners, the decision to remain open is based on the high demand recorded for the winter months, especially for the weeks before, during and after the Christmas holidays.

“We are entering uncharted waters but occupancy rates have already reached 60 percent for the period between mid-December and mid-January,” Panagiotis Iglesis, owner of Athina Luxury Suites told GTP Headlines.

He attributed high demand to the availability of direct flights between the island and many cities in Europe.

Located in Fira, Athina Luxury Suites is a recently renovated property that combines upscale hospitality, luxury amenities and stunning views of the Caldera.

Its rooms are fully equipped to ensure a comfortable stay during winter, while the property’s heated pool and room jacuzzis will remain open for guests to enjoy.

According to Iglesis, Santorini’s unique landscape and mild weather conditions are just some of the reasons why travelers choose the island for winter holidays.

“Santorini is a site of attraction on its own. People are coming to Santorini to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Plus, the island is less crowded during winter and visitors can enjoy its offerings with a lower budget,” he added.

2021 summer season deemed a success

Athina Luxury Suites is ready to welcome winter after a successful summer season.

Despite the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic still casting a shadow over travel, occupancy rates at Athina Luxury Suites reached 100 percent for the period between mid-May and August, with demand exceeding 2019 levels and prices remaining stable.

Iglesis said that high occupancy rates continued into September, with bookings remaining high until the end of October.

“People are eager and excited to travel again. This is evident in their behavior. We expect this strong momentum to continue into 2022 as other markets, such as Australia and Asia, are opening up again,” he added.
