Thessaloniki Awaits Master Plan for Exhibition Center Revamp
The tender inviting interested parties to draw up a master plan for the revamp and construction of a metropolitan park on the premises of Thessaloniki’s International Exhibition Center (TIF-Helexpo) has been announced, with the approved plan to go up for public deliberation in September.
TIF-Helexpo management said it was also awaiting environment ministry approval in the coming months of spatial planning and environmental impact studies for the 120-million-euro project.
“The tender for the master plan for the reconstruction of the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center has already been announced and in 2018 we expect to award the project,” said TIF-Helexpo President Tasos Tzikas.
In the meantime, three parties have expressed interest in drawing up a master plan for the center, TIF-Helexpo CEO Kyriakos Pozrikidis said.
The aim of the project, which includes the construction of a metropolitan park on the premises, is to establish the TIF-Helexpo center as a city landmark and point of reference.
TIF-Helexpo management has proposed the creation of a modern exhibition, conference and business center on 180,000m2 of the space as well as a metropolitan park.
The Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center is of primary political and commercial importance for the northern port city as it hosts each year the largest trade fair and is where the prime minister makes his annual policy address.
