Halkidiki Aims to Attract Traveling Russian Families
The Halkidiki region in central Macedonia, northern Greece, is aiming to attract family tourism from Russia this year.
In this direction the Greek embassy in Moscow has once again launched an art competition titled “Trip to Greece” inviting children aged 6-13 to create works inspired by the travels to the Greece of their dreams.
The aim of the contest, which falls within the Greece-Russia Tourism Year, is to award the four winners with a trip to Halkidiki.
Besides the wide variety of tourism offerings, organizers aim to boost religious tourism particularly to the monastic community of Mt Athos.
So far more than 1,000 students from Russia have participated in the contest, with winners to be selected by a committee of Russian and Greek artists and critics.
The creations of the five finalists will go online on elru2016.gr on February 12, for open voting.
The trips to Halkidiki are sponsored by Ellinair, the Halkidiki Hotel Association and the Halkidiki Tourism Organization.
