Stranded passengers are filing complaints with the Canadian Transport Agency (CTA) against SkyGreece airlines, which stopped operations last week leaving hundreds of customers in the lurk.
Aiming to boost connections between Greece and the US and Canada, SkyGreece Airlines presented its plans last week to the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA), with sights on garnering their support.
As the summer season sets in, travelers are flocking to Greece and more new flights are landing by the day at Athens International Airport, which is recording a 20 percent increase in passenger traffic, 140 new routes, 189 boosted flights plus 10 new destinations.
SkyGreece Airlines has announced it will soon conduct selective charter flights until it receives the necessary licenses to launch scheduled flights from Athens to New York, Toronto and Montreal.
"The creation of the new airline SkyGreece was a reaction by us Greeks living abroad," the carrier's founder and chairman, Father Nicholas Alexandris, said on 4 February in Athens.
SkyGreece, a new Greek airline founded by expatriates, is preparing to launch several direct flights from Athens, Greece, to New York City and other airports in the United States and Canada as of this May.
