Crete's local products could lead the way to develop culinary tourism and wine tourism and thus attract more tourists to the popular island, according to Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni.
The ministries of Tourism and Rural Development and Food have agreed to launch joint actions in 2014 when Greece undertakes the Presidency of the European Union.
Almost 40 percent of the citizens of Crete believe that more emphasis should be given on tourism so development can be achieved on the island, a recent poll carried out by the Technical University of Crete said.
