Promoting Greece as Leading Luxury Wedding Destination Remains a Priority for GDPA
Making Greece known all over the world as the ideal location for hosting luxury weddings, remains the main aim of the Greek Destination Planners Association (GDPA).
Speaking during the association’s annual event to cut the Vasilopita (Greek New Year’s cake) in Athens, GDPA President Thomas Politis highlighted the value of the luxury wedding events sector for Greece and its contribution to the country’s tourism development.
“Our vision is to make Greece the top destination for couples who choose to organize their wedding abroad,” he told guests, which included officials and representatives of the tourism industry.
Founded in 2020 GDPA aims to bring together Greek wedding and event planners by promoting Greece as a prime wedding and event tourism destination. The association highlights Greece’s high-end services on offer and the variety of its destinations, which stretch beyond the renowned locations of Athens, Mykonos and Santorini.
During his speech, Politis highlighted the need for all parties to cooperate in order to organize an international conference to promote Greece as a leading destination for hosting luxury weddings. He also underlined the importance of including Greece’s luxury wedding segment in the audiovisual material used to promote the destination to markets abroad.
It is reminded that the GDPA has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) to promote Greece’s wedding tourism offering.
Also speaking during the event, GNTO Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis said the organization is aiming for Greece to be a “protagonist” destination in the wedding tourism segment.
“Our country has all the comparative advantages, but also those professionals who know the industry well,” the secretary general said.
Fragakis added that the GNTO supports initiatives to promote wedding tourism in Greek destinations, aiming to extend the tourism season, enrich the Greek tourist product and highlight experiential tourism, all seasons of the year.
“Luxury tourism is a strategic goal of the GNTO for the coming years. All international studies show that wedding tourism is on a growth course worldwide,” he said.
Also attending the GDPA’s Vasilopita-cutting event was Greek Deputy Tourism Minister Elena Rapti, Attica Region Deputy Regional Governor Christina Kefalogianni, Secretary General of Culture Giorgos Didaskalou, GNTO General Director Sofia Lazaridou, as well as the association’s members and partners from all over Greece.
