Greece Sets Developing Wedding, Luxury Tourism as Priority
The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) announced this week that it was taking actions to establish the country as a top wedding and luxury tourism destination.
In this direction, GNTO Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with the head of the Greek Destination Planners Association (GDPA), Thomas Politis.
Under the MoC, the GNTO and GDPA will organize marketing and promotional initiatives to tap into corporate and social events tourism. Among others, the agreement foresees the exchange of content, specialized FAM and media trips, the promotion of wedding tourism options at exhibitions, events and workshops and promotion online.
Last month, Greece ranked 6th as one of the world’s most popular destinations for weddings based on Google search data. The country is also among the Top 5 wedding destinations in Europe.
“We want Greece to be a protagonist in wedding tourism. The country has all the comparative advantages, but also professionals who know the industry well,” said GNTO Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis.
“What it needed now is to get the word out, that is why we have joined forces with the GDPA,” he added.
Besides further developing wedding tourism, the GNTO is focusing on promoting luxury tourism options on offer in Greece.
“The purpose of this cooperation is to join forces and know-how, and through extroversion to promote Greece to cooperating markets,” said Politis.
