ITA Airways Updates Greek Partners at Athens Event
Greek travel agents and journalists recently attended a briefing held by ITA Airways’ international and local sales teams in Athens and were informed on the latest updates on the airline’s route network.
Held in collaboration with Athens International Airport (AIA), the event took place at 48 Urban Garden/Contemporary Art Center and was attended by the Ambassador of Italy Patrizia Falcinelli. During the event, guests enjoyed an Italian culinary masterclass that was held by the Italian Chef Marco Serra and tasted his dishes full of Italian flavors.
Athens-Rome: 26 weekly flights
ITA Airways offers 26 direct weekly roundtrip flights from Athens to Rome Fiumicino, ensuring convenient connections with all destinations of its network.
Intercontinental market
For ITA Airways, 2023 is the year of the big investments in the intercontinental market with the launch of new direct flights from Rome Fiumicino to Washington (opened on June 2), to San Francisco from July 1 and Rio de Janeiro that will be launched on October 29.
With 6 destinations in North America served with nonstop flights – including New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles and the recently launched Washington and San Francisco – the United States is the first international market for ITA Airways and the most strategic one after Italy, as well as the country with the highest number of citizens of Italian origins. Therefore, direct flights from North America to Italy are not only means for leisure and business travel but also “bridges” connecting the broader Italian community in the US.
“ITA Airways aims to become the preferred carrier between North America and Italy and, via Rome, to the rest of Europe and the Mediterranean,” according to the airline’s sales teams.
With the new destinations opened this summer from Rome Fiumicino to Washington and San Francisco, the company operated 122 weekly flights between North America and Italy in the height of the summer season.
Further expansion in South America
The new nonstop flight to Rio, launching on October 29, is the second destination served by ITA Airways in Brazil after Sao Paulo and will further strengthen its expansion in South America, following the flights opening to Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo in 2022, which has always been a privileged destination for Italian holidays and the destination with the highest rate of Italian origin population, as well as a strategic market together with the United States for business and cargo traffic.
With the launch of the new nonstop flight to Rio de Janeiro, ITA Airways is offering an average of 19 weekly roundtrip flights between Brazil and Italy – all available through convenient connections from/to Athens.
These new long-haul destinations join the ones already available to New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Washington, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, New Delhi and Malè (Maldives).
