ITA Airways, the national carrier of Italy, recently commenced its direct flights between Washington Dulles International Airport and Rome Fiumicino Airport.
The inaugural flight, which took place on the Italian National Day, was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the departure gate and attended by ITA Airways International Sales Vice President Pierfrancesco Carino, among other ITA Airways, airport and diplomatic officials.
Daily Washington-Rome roundtrip flights from August
The Washington-Rome route will initially operate five roundtrip flights per week, providing convenient travel options for both the Italian community in Washington and the local and international business communities in the U.S. capital.
However, during the peak of the summer season, from August 1 to October 28, 2023, ITA Airways will offer daily roundtrip flights.
Operating with the new Airbus A330neo, the company’s flagship aircraft, the Washington-Rome route marks the expansion of the airline’s intercontinental network for the summer season. The A330neo features ITA Airways’ new cabin design, reflecting the airline’s focus on technology, innovation, efficiency, and Italian design.
Passengers onboard the A330neo will experience a unique in-flight experience, including the award-winning Airspace cabin, new interiors designed by Walter De Silva, a sophisticated lighting system, in-flight entertainment systems, and full Wi-Fi connectivity.
Additionally, the menus onboard have been curated by Michelin-starred chef Gian Piero Vivalda, and the crew uniforms have been designed with the advice of fashion guru Brunello Cucinelli.
With existing direct flights from Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa to New York, Miami, Boston, and Los Angeles, ITA Airways aims to become the preferred carrier for travel between North America and Italy. The airline also benefits from a codeshare agreement with Delta Air Lines, offering passengers access to over 100 domestic destinations through Delta’s hubs.
ITA Airways is making significant investments in its intercontinental operations in 2023. In addition to the Washington route, the airline plans to launch new direct flights from Rome Fiumicino to San Francisco in July and Rio de Janeiro in October.
