Athens to Host International Emmy Award Semi-finals in September
Greek and international judges will meet in Athens for two Emmy Award semi-final events in September, the Municipality of Athens announced this week.
The municipality’s Athens Film Office and Nova, a United Group member, will appoint a jury that will select the final candidates in two categories.
Every summer from June 15 – September 15, the Academy travels to over 25 judging sites for semi-final judging rounds which determine the International Emmy Award nominees for the year. The Academy-approved jurors are television, film, production and creatives professionals.
The Athens event will offer hosts and jurors the chance to network, visit local landmarks and attend a special gala event.
“Film industry development is a strategic goal for the City of Athens. The Athens Film Office, established in April 2020, has put Athens on the international map by serving dozens of foreign producers, has created new jobs, but also multiple benefits for the city’s businesses. Continuing the initiatives for the further promotion of Athens, we are very happy to be organizing the Emmy Award semi-final rounds in September,” said Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis.
The Athens Emmy Award semi-final events are one more step towards establishing the capital in the global film and creatives industry while acknowledging Athens’ growing dynamic as an events host city, the municipality said.

“Our participation in the nomination process for the International Emmy Awards is an important recognition of our contribution to the promotion of high-level artistic creation, but also of our experience in the production of quality television content of high standards,” said Kiki Silvestriadou, CEO Nova Media.
United Group is a leading multi-play telecoms and media provider in South East Europe providing customers with a full range of telecommunications services. Nova is United Group’s Greek operator.
The 2023 International Emmy Awards will take place on November 20 in New York City.
