Delta: More Flights to Greece, New Nonstop Athens-Boston Flight

Delta Air Lines on Tuesday announced more flights than ever between Athens and the United States this summer, including a new nonstop service to Boston.

The airline will offer three flights a week to Boston (every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) complemented by 11 flights to New York-JFK and a daily operation to Atlanta.

“With travel restrictions easing, we’ll offer 17 percent more flights from Athens this summer compared to 2021 as Greeks explore the US and American tourists rediscover Greece’s beautiful beaches, island getaways and ancient historical sites,” said Nicolas Ferri, Delta’s VP Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.

The restart of Delta’s services from Greece began on March 8 between Athens and New York-JFK. The airline’s seasonal service from Athens to Atlanta, which relaunched last year, is returning effective May 6, and Delta’s new Boston service launches on May 29. Customers will be able enjoy convenient connections via New York-JFK, Atlanta and Boston to destinations across the United States.

“Delta is the first US carrier to commence – this year even earlier than in previous years – their direct services in 2022 connecting Athens to New York / JFK… Even during the most challenging times of the pandemic, the US market demonstrated robust resilience, and remains one of our most significant markets, a development strongly supported by the large and dynamic Greek-American community,” said Athens International Airport (AIA) CEO Giannis Paraschis.

In total, Delta will offer 5,922 seats each week between Greece and the United States during the peak summer months, including 714 seats in Delta One and 441 in Delta Premium Select. Delta’s flights to New York-JFK, Atlanta and Boston will be flown with Airbus A330 aircraft and operate in conjunction with Delta’s joint venture partners Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic.

The easing of travel restrictions in Greece is expected to attract more American tourists this year. It is reminded that the country has lifted the obligation for fully vaccinated travelers from the US to show a negative Covid-19 test upon arrivals and from March 15 will abolish the PLF procedure for visitors.
