Ecoweek to Promote Sustainability and Innovation through Summer Events
Ecoweek, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability, this year is celebrating its 15-year anniversary with a number of events scheduled to take place in June, August and September.
Starting on World Environment Day on June 5, Ecoweek will hold an online panel discussion titled: “Zero pollution for healthier people and planet”.
The event will take place as part of the European Green Week, which this year is dedicated to the “zero pollution ambition”. It will also include discussions on the European Green Deal program, and initiatives dedicated to energy, mobility, agriculture, health and biodiversity, among others.
Speakers are expected from a number of countries including Greece, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Israel.
The Aegina Mayor Yiannis Zorbas will open the event, which will include a panel discussions on innovation, smart technologies, mobility, design, and urban policy.
The Ecoweek event will take place in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

Events on Aegina
In late August, Ecoweek will join the celebrations for the bicentennial of Greece’s Independence on the island of Aegina, which during 1828 – 1829 served as the capital of Greece.
On August 29, Ecoweek will open a one-week exciting program of online and on-site activities on Aegina with lectures, workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions, and many more.
“Ecoweek aims to convey a message of sustainability and innovation”, said Elias Messinas, chairman of the organization.
“This year, we are committed to preserving and promoting Aegina’s historic heritage, and exploring natural resources that can attract tourism and support the local economy all year round,” he added.
The Ecoweek activities for 2021 will also engage students and young professionals from Greece and abroad, local communities and businesseses, in efforts to present tangible solutions and design proposals for sustainable tourism, the revitalization of natural resources, recycling and composting initiatives.
In addition, Ecoweek, for the first time, will host the Recycle Band from Poland for a masterclass on the creation of music instruments from used containers and bottles.
