YES to Shipping Forum Reaches Out to Greece’s Next Generation
Aiming to reach out to the younger generation, offer insight and training opportunities and foster Greece’s next shipping sector players, the second edition of the “YES To Shipping Forum 2018” was held this year within the Ρosidonia Exhibition 2018 at the Metropolitan Expo in Athens, earlier this month.
“The aim of Greek shipping is to maintain its leadership while maximizing the economic, social and strategic benefits for the country,” said Theodoros Veniamis, Union of Greek Shipowners president, addressing the event.
“The YES Forum is a platform of open dialogue between Greek shipping and marine tourism sector players and university students, graduates and young executives. This initiative aims to create the next generation in shipping by sharing shipping knowhow, experience and culture,” said Danae Bezantakou, founder of organizer YES Forum and CEO at Navigator Shipping Consultants.
Bezantakou went on to add that “generation gap aside, bridges can be built through open days and internships offered by shipping companies as well as through the open dialogue carried out at Posidonia”.
Bezantakou proposed the inclusion of maritime and tourism courses in primary and secondary education “so that students can from an early age become familiar with the two sectors”, adding that YES Forum plans to organize such activities at schools as of 2019.
“Today, more than ever, the sea and especially, Greek shipping is an outlet for unemployment, the financial crisis, but also for young Greek professionals to remain and achieve recognition in their homeland,” said Veniamis.
The event, organized by YES Forum (Young Executives Shipping Forum), was attended by government officials, sector executives, decision-makers and students.
The third edition of the YES to Shipping Forum 2020 is scheduled to take place on June 5, 2020 as part of the Posidonia Exhibition 2020.
The Greek Travel Pages was a media sponsor of YES to Shipping Forum 2018.

I hope the ‘the next generation in shipping’ will have more laws such as the German Packaging Act: https://www.lizenzero.de/en/blog/german-packaging-act-in-the-uk-obligations-when-shipping-to-germany/ In order to achieve a more sustainable way of shipping, we should reduce what is being shipped … by consuming less.
