As part of its ongoing promotional strategy and in efforts to attract even more Scandinavian tourists to the Halkidiki peninsula in northern Greece, the Mount Athos Area Organization presents “The 61 Best Beaches” as the best reason to visit the region.

Penetrating the Scandinavian market is a priority for the organization, which planned promotional events in Sweden and Denmark on 9-12 December with the aim to inform the Scandinavian market of the region’s unique tourism offerings.

According to the organization, the Athos region is being included on the travel agenda of major Scandinavian tour operators for the first time.

The organization has in the last year arranged dozens B2B meetings with sector professionals and representatives of local tour operators in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. The next series of meetings are set to take place in September 2015, with the aim of boosting the Athos region’s brand name and finalizing collaborations.

A World Heritage site, Mount Athos and its surrounding region offer visitors to Greece a unique experience with world-acclaimed events like “Mount Athos Area Kouzina”, which kicks off on 15 May, featuring Athos culinary traditions as well as innovative dishes using local products.
