The biggest cruise ship in the world, “Freedom of the Seas,” constructed for Royal Caribbean International by Aker Finnyards Turku of Finland is complete and will sail on its first cruise on June 4.
The vast ship, weighing 158,000 tons and 339 meters long, can accommodate 4,370 passengers in its 1,849 larger-than-average staterooms. Its 15 decks provide ample space for a great variety of recreational activities.
A water park, a surf park and several swimming pools are some of the highlights. The water park features a waterfall, umbrella jets, spray cannons and splash pools. The surf park has a continuous flowing wave that riders can surf or body board.
A rock-climbing wall, an ice-skating rink, mini golf courses, and a 1,160-square-meter gymnasium offer other sports options.
The ship also has a large spa, solarium with a jungle theme, and two cantilevered whirlpools extending 3.5 meters out from the ship’s sides. Additional features include a shopping center, theater, conference center and casino.
The cruise ship’s first voyage will include ports of call in Mexico, the Grand Cayman islands, Jamaica and Haiti.
