Charity Run In Athens – “Run for Peace: From Acropolis to Babylon”

Spread the word, it’s for a good cause! Sign up now, run the extra mile and contribute to charity.

run_for_peace_The Iraqi Embassy in Athens is inviting all to a charity run to raise awareness and awaken society about the value of peace.

The “Run for Peace: From Acropolis to Babylon” is a 5km race at the Acropolis surroundings on Sunday 16 March 2014 commemorating the day of Halabja Genocide. On 16 March 1988, Saddam Hussein’s dictatorial regime used poisonous gas against innocent Iraqi Kurdish civilians in the city of Halabja. More than 5,000 people lost their lives and 8,000 people were injured. The Halabja massacre has been recognized by the Federal Parliament of Iraq and several European parliaments as an act of genocide.

The “Run for Peace: From Acropolis to Babylon” will take place with the support of the City of Athens Cultural, Sports and Youth Organization and under the auspices of the Greek Culture and Sports Ministry.

The registration fee is 7 euros and half of the proceeds will be donated to charity (Centre of Solidarity for the Homeless of the Municipality of Athens and the Centre for Social Care, Voula).
