Maritime Tourism High On Greek Government’s Agenda
The development of marine and cruise tourism is a high priority for the government, according to recent statements made by the secretary general of the Greek Tourism Ministry, Anastasios Liaskos.
Speaking during the recent press conference held for the 2nd Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum (to be held 28-29 May), Mr. Liaskos said the Greek Tourism Ministry, in collaboration with other ministries, will proceed with the implementation of a national strategic plan for marine tourism.
According to the secretary general, the plan will be based on four pillars: strengthening entrepreneurship, promoting special forms of tourism (especially cruise), assuring quality of infrastructure and services, and investing in human resources.
In addition, he added that the lifting of cabotage restrictions in Greece, following decades of recession in the cruise sector, created new growth potential.
“In collaboration with the Ministry of Shipping, a master plan is being put forward that includes the upgrading of the infrastructure of cruise terminals and the increase of home porting in Greece,” he said.
