During the conference, Labor and Social Security Minister Louka Katseli (second to left) said the government’s decision to lift cabotage restrictions would boost up sea cruise tourism. However, tourism professionals in the audience agreed that in reality cabotage had not been lifted as the conditions set by the Greek government discourage cruise companies from homeporting in Greece. “Cabotage restrictions were not completely lifted as the government’s conditions are yet another Greek originality that does not exist in any other country,” New Democracy MP responsible for tourism issues, Olga Kefalogiannis said (center).

Travel Agency Staff To Benefit From OAED Subsidy Program

The Manpower Employment Organization (OAED) assured the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Tourism Enterprises (GEPOET) that travel agency and tour bus staff would be included as of 2011 in its subsidy program of insurance contributions.

Hotel Staff Sole Beneficiaries Of OAED Programs

Travel agencies today are in a dire position and the Greek state has taken no measures to support them, the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA) said recently in regards to the Manpower Employment Organization’s (OAED) subsidize programs for hotel employees.
