Two Greek Beaches Among Best in the World for 2024
The Greek beaches of Voutoumi and Fteri have been named among the top 50 beaches in the world by Banana Boat, a renowned sunscreen production company with 40 years of experience.
The company recently unveiled its World’s 50 Best Beaches list, compiled based on the votes of Beach Ambassadors, as well as input from some of the world’s most seasoned travel influencers and journalists.
“Our list will help inspire travelers to leave the beaten path behind and enjoy the most stunning and relaxing beaches on earth,” said Tine Holst, co-founder of The World’s 50 Best Beaches.
The beaches were ranked according to eight important criteria: unique characteristics, wildlife, untouched, soundtrack of nature, easy to enter the water, often calm water, not too crowded, and frequency of idyllic conditions.
Voutoumi beach in Top 5 in the world
Nestled at the foot of a lush green hill, Voutoumi Beach on Antipaxos Island has been ranked the 5th best beach in the world for its deep blue waters and exquisite blend of pebbles and fine white sand.
“This spectacular, secluded beach on the island of Antipaxos is primarily accessible by boat, keeping it quiet and pristine compared to more accessible Greek beaches,” Beach Ambassadors said.
Fteri Beach on Kefalonia secured the 29th position. Accessible primarily by boat or via a steep trail hike, Banana Boat’s Beach Ambassadors lauded Fteri’s isolation for its “pristine and serene atmosphere”, distinguishing it from more “tourist-heavy” destinations.
7 Greek beaches on Europe’s Best list
On Europe’s Best Beaches list, Voutoumi Beach secured the 2nd spot, while Fteri Beach claimed the 7th position. Additionally, five more Greek beaches were recognized among the best in Europe.
Elafonissi Beach on Crete ranked 14th, a slight drop from its 19th position last year, while Kefalonia’s Myrtos Bealch climbed to 16th from its 32nd spot in 2023. Elia Beach on Mykonos was also acknowledged as the 31st best beach in Europe.
Balos Beach on Crete was featured on the European list as well, though it dropped from its 10th position in 2023 to 34th this year. Lastly, Porto Katsiki on Lefkada ranked 45th as the best European beach, a decline from its 25th position last year.
The top three beaches recognized as the World’s Best Beaches for 2023 were Trunk Bay in the Caribbean, Cala Mariolu in Italy, and Meads Bay in Anguilla.
