More Greeks to Travel for the Easter Holiday this Year
More Greeks are planning to travel for Orthodox Easter this year with bookings for organized holidays up by 20 percent over last year, according to data released by Greek travel agents.
More specifically, the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Tourist & Travel Agencies (fedHATTA) attributed the rise to the extended Easter holiday which coincides this year with May Day, warm weather, and to steady prices.
Top destinations in Greece for domestic travelers include popular destinations such as Chios, Leros, Lesvos, Tinos, Syros, Paros, Naxos, Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes, Patmos, Kos, Crete, Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Lefkada, Paxi, Ithaca and on the mainland Pelion, Zagori villages, Ioannina, Halkidiki, Monemvasia, Kardamyli, Kalamata, and Nafplio.
Greek travelers will also be heading to Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Turkey Egypt, Dubai, and Morocco as well as to destinations in South America.
The prices for tourist packages for destinations in Greece and abroad have remained steady with travel agents tour operators designing multi-day and short trips to meet the demand, say travel agents.
Orthodox Easter will be celebrated on Sunday, May 5.
