In Memory of Athanasios Retsos, Co-founder of Electra Hotels & Resorts
Athanasios Retsos, co-founder of the Electra Hotels & Resorts group and father of the former president of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), Yiannis Retsos, passed away at 95 peacefully on March 21 surrounded by family at his home.
Born in 1929 in Skortsinos, Arkadia, and from the early age of 15 in Athens, Retsos managed amidst adverse circumstances to distinguish himself, to create and later collaborate with Makis Fokas, Thomas Svyriadis and Babis Tsaousoglou, co-founding Electra Hotels & Resorts, while also contributing to the development of Greek tourism.
“Throughout his career, he moved ahead while never deviating from his basic principles: perseverance, patience, justice, kindness and adherence to his moral values, even when they were against his best interests,” the Electra Hotels & Resorts group said in an announcement expressing its deepest sorrow for Retsos’ passing. “These principles are elements of our group’s DNA, of which we are all proud!”
Retsos’ funeral will he held on Saturday, March 23, at 11am at the First Cemetery of Athens. The Electra Hotels & Resorts group has requested donations to be made to volunteer group “Stirixi” in lieu of wreaths and flowers. The group has already made a donation of 10,000 euros in his memory.
We, at GTP, extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and the people of Electra Hotels & Resorts.
