Online Reputation for Greece and Athens on Upward Trend
The online reputation of both Greece and Athens is on an upward trend with overall impressions improving in the last quarter (Q4) of 2023, according to the latest Athens/Greece Sentiment Tracker released by INSETE, the research body of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), in collaboration with TCI Research.
Online impressions of Greece improved in Q4 after taking a blow in the summer following the devastating fires on Rhodes and in Northern Greece and the floods in Central Greece.
According to the findings, Greece’s online reputation (NSI – net sentiment index) move up to 57 points in Q4 compared to rival markets Portugal and Croatia (67), Italy (62), and Spain (45).
Based on INSETE’s assessment of thousands of online comments and discussion in the period under review, winning points by travelers were awarded for culture (9.4 points), beaches (9.1 points), food and drink (points), staff and service (9.5 points), value for money (9.1 points).
On the downside, discussions impacting Greece’s reputation in Q4 focused on the climate, incidents with the police, and misleading rumors about bedbugs.
Satisfaction levels meanwhile were high with Greece garnering an overall score of 9.1 and Athens 9.0 compared to the European average of 8.7. The source markets that awarded Greece the highest points in Q4 were the Americans giving Greece a score of 9.3 followed by the Brits (9 points), the Germans (8.9 points), the Italians (8.7 points), and the French (8.6 points).
In terms of location, most of the country’s regions performed well in the last quarter of the year garnering an average score of 9 points with the Attica region rated with 9.2 points and Western Macedonia with 9.5 points.
