Pieria Hoteliers Team Up with Greeks of Romania to Promote Destination
Τhe Pieria Hoteliers Association (PHA) recently signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoU) with the Union of Romanian Greeks as part of efforts to further promote the destination of Pieria and strengthen ties with the diaspora.
The MoU was signed between PHA President Iraklis Tsitlakidis and Union of Greeks of Romania President Dragos-Gabriel Zisopol on the sidelines of the recent TTR Romanian Tourism Fair 2024 held in Bucharest this month.
According to Tsitlakidis, the MoU aims to deepen cooperation between Pieria and the Greek community in Romania. Pieria is located in the southern part of the Central Macedonia Region.
“In this way, we will also contribute to stronger ties between Romania and Greece,” Tsitlakidis said in statements to local television station TVR1.
Moreover, during its participation in TTR, Pieria hoteliers had the chance to promote the region and its tourism offerings.
The board of the hoteliers’ association also met with Romanian tourism stakeholders to discuss route alternatives in view of construction of the Thessaloniki Flyover which is expected to lead to long delays and traffic disruptions.
In this direction, Tsitlakidis said affected municipal authorities had agreed to suggest the Nea Anchialos Airport as an alternative for tourists to the region.
“It is of utmost importance to utilize and develop the Nea Anchialos Airport as works on the Flyover will last for at least four to five years,” said Tsitlakidis, who is also vice president of the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation, adding that the airport is in close proximity, easily accessible via the national highway, and can handle increased flights.
Organized by Romexpo, the Romanian Tourism Fair was held in the Bucharest Exhibition Center during February 15-18 and gave Romanian and foreign companies the opportunity to present their tourism offers in a professional and lively atmosphere, favorable for networking and interaction.
