Hotels at Greek Carnival Destinations Expecting High Occupancy Rates
Greek hoteliers in the towns of Patra, Rethymno on Crete, and Xanthi are eagerly awaiting the launch of the Carnival season on February 25 to boost occupancy rates.
According to the latest booking data, hotel occupancy levels at Greece’s three most popular Carnival destinations are nearly full.
Market insiders add that the three-day Clean Monday holiday, the national March 25th holiday and Easter will also boost occupancy rates at many lesser-known destinations.
Achaia-Patra Hoteliers Association President Antonis Mentzelopoulos told local media that hotels in the city center were fully booked and that summer season hotels had opened to meet the demand.
E-Real Estates President Themis Bakas confirmed that demand for short-term rentals was also very high for carnival with pre-bookings since mid-January at 91 percent. Indicatively, the cost of a family flat comes to 1,013 euros for three nights in Patra.
Meanwhile in Xanthi and Rethymno prebookings are going strong with many accommodation facilities outside the city center also seeing occupancy rates rising for the season. Demand for Airbnb-style rentals is also high with a flat for a four-member family in Xanthi going for 860 euros on average for three nights.
Other Greek towns and cities like Preveza are also expecting strong arrivals with occupancy levels there already reaching 100 percent.
