Ioannina and Epirus Tourism Bodies Want Gov’t Support
Tourism professionals in Ioannina and in the wider Epirus region are reiterating their call to the government to take immediate action and to include the region in national promotional actions and ensure airlines continue their flight programs in the winter and spring.
In a letter to Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis, tourism professionals are expressing their discontent with failure to include Ioannina and Epirus in tourism support programs.
Stakeholders in the region argue that although Fragakis had pledged to include Ioannina in the GNTO’s action plans, which include supporting the airport with winter air connections from abroad and with Crete, including the city in the GNTO’s city break promotion and in its advertising deal for the promotion of winter destinations, nothing has so far materialized.
Ioannina professionals are reiterating their call for inclusion in the GNTO’s programing and for immediate actions in this direction underlining the popularity of the region as a leading winter destination and referring to Ioannina’s and the region’s developed conference infrastructure, religious, sports, gastronomy and outdoor tourism offerings.
Local bodies signing the letter include the Federation of Rental Apartments and Accommodation of Epirus, the Union of Ioannina Tourist Offices & Buses, and the Ioannina Region Hotels Association.
