Greece to Relaunch Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign as Cases Rise
Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis announced on Wednesday that a new campaign was underway to “convince” Greeks to get vaccinated as the number of Covid-19 incidents rise.
“The coronavirus vaccine is absolutely safe; the Health Ministry will launch a far-reaching campaign to convince even the most skeptical citizen,” he said during a press conference following an emergency meeting earlier today.
The awareness-raising drive will also be addressed to medical doctors so that they can prescribe vaccination to their patients, he added.
Georgiadis also announced that fines introduced two years ago for seniors who did not get vaccinated would be lifted.
Meanwhile, free rapid tests are being carried out at 176 points around Greece.
Environmental Engineering Professor Dimosthenis Sarigiannis said he was expecting daily cases to reach 7,000 a day by January 22.
According to the health ministry, 90 patients infected with Covid-19 were admitted to ICUs (intensive care units) over the past few weeks the majority of whom had not been inoculated with the updated vaccine.
