DiscoverEU: Over 36,000 Youngsters to Travel Across Europe for Free
A total of 36,318 young Europeans will receive a free travel pass to explore Europe following the European Commission’s announcement of the list of the 18-year-old applicants that succeeded in the DiscoverEU October 2023 round.
Funded under the Erasmus+ programme, the DiscoverEU initiative gives 18-year old citizens the opportunity to discover Europe through learning experiences.
“DiscoverEU is a unique opportunity to embark on an unforgettable journey across Europe, where each stop creates new relationships and highlights Europe’s multifaceted beauty,” Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said on Tuesday.
Following the announcement, young people aged 18 years old will travel mainly by rail between March 2024 and May 2025 and learn about Europe’s diversity, cultural heritage and history, and connect with people from all over the continent.
“To all the young adventurers stepping into this remarkable journey: may every location expand your perspectives, every interaction enrich your spirit, and every encounter leave a lasting memory,” Ivanova added.
The latest (October 2023) application round of DiscoverEU was open to young people born between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2005 from EU Member States as well as from Erasmus+ associated countries. In total, 144,038 young people had applied in the round.
DiscoverEU also includes a learning dimension, with pre-departure information trainings or meet-ups throughout Europe.
