Aldemar Resorts Joins We4all Alliance, Plants Trees in Ilia
Greek hotel group Aldemar Resorts recently joined the We4all environmental alliance as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program “Care”.
A global non-profit organization, We4all launched in 2018 with a mission “to help the earth heal and to remind people this planet is our home”.
Aldemar, alongside its other environmental initiatives and with the cooperation and expertise of We4all, decided to support the Ilia prefecture and planted 100 saplings in Ancient Olympia. Trees planted included cypresses, carobs, oaks, acacias and Apollo laurels. Located in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula, Ilia has been repeatedly affected in recent years by devastating fires.
According to Aldemar, the new trees will have an immediate positive impact on the ecosystem of the affected area, as they will produce an average of 11,700 kg of oxygen per year, while absorbing an average of 2,200 kg of carbon dioxide per year.
The planting of fruit-bearing and bee-keeping seedlings also strengthens the economy of the region, as agriculture is its main driver of development. This way Aldemar contributes to sustainability for the next generations of the local community, by supporting agricultural activities and tourism.
“Sustainability issues start with prevention. But when prevention is not enough, we, as Aldemar, believe that we should be present and always stand by the local community participating in the restoration and aiming for a better and more sustainable future for everyone. We must not forget that a natural disaster remains a disaster only when we remain mere onlookers,” Aldemar Group CEO Alexandros Angelopoulos said.
