GNTO Proposes Int’l Conference to Promote Greece’s Mt Olympus
During her recent visit to Pieria, Central Macedonia, Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) President Angela Gerekou proposed hosting an international conference that would focus on the promotion of Mt Olympus and the wider area.
Gerekou said the event, which would showcase the sustainability of the destination, would be supported by the GNTO and carried out in collaboration with local tourism professionals and stakeholders. In this direction, a meeting has been planned at GNTO headquarters in Athens, where secretary general Dimitris Fragakis and Larissa officials will discuss further actions.
During her stay in Pieria, Gerekou also met with local mayors and tourism officials and was given a tour of key sites and landmarks in the Mt Olympus region.
Earlier this year, the ministries of culture and environment submitted a nomination file to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the inclusion of Mt Olympus on the list.
