Greece Wins ‘Destination of the Year’ Title at Belgian Travel Awards
Greece was awarded the prestigious title of the “Best Destination of the Year” for Belgian travelers at the Belgian Travel Awards that took place at the Skyhall in Brussels Airport on November 17.
Known as the Oscars of the Belgian travel industry, the awards are organized by Trav Magazine BeLux, a leading professional tourism magazine in Belgium.
Greece came in first in the “Best Destination of the Year” category following a public vote. Competitor destinations in the same category included countries such as Turkey, Dubai and Cape Verde.
“With this new distinction, Greece is recognized in Belgium as the most desirable destination for travel, while at the same time the impressive tourism recovery of the country from the pandemic is rewarded in the heart of Europe,” the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) said in announcement.
Celebrating the resilience of the Belgian travel industry, the Belgium Travel Awards ceremony last week was the first to take place since the pandemic. It was attended by 920 tourism professionals.
Greece was represented by the head of the GNTO branch in the Netherlands, Kyriaki Boulasidou, and the deputy head, Angeliki Tzifa.
Receiving the award, Boulasidou and Tzifa thanked the organizers of the event and the voters who recognized the exceptional value of Greece as a tourism destination.
