Greek PM to Focus on Targeted Measures at Thessaloniki Fair
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected among others to announce the extension of reduced VAT rates in tourism, transport, hospitality and F&B services most likely to June 2024, during the opening of the 87th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on September 9.
According to local media reports, the prime minister will focus more on reforms and targeted measures aimed at specific groups of the population.
These include the extension of the market pass until the end of the year, extending the heating subsidy to more citizens, launching the 150-euro youth pass to 200,000 young Greeks aged 18 or over, increasing civil servants’ basic wage, family subsidies, pensions, tax deduction levels for families with children, increasing minimum wage starting in 2024, and reducing ENFIA property tax as of 2024 for those who have insured or will insure their properties by the end of the year.
Mitsotakis was to meet with Thessaloniki stakeholders involved in major projects in Northern Greece and the wider Macedonia region on Wednesday. The prime minister will also focus on local interventions based on a list of approximately 5,500 actions included in regional development plans.
Tackling tax evasion will also be high on the TIF agenda with Mitsotakis expected to reiterate that failure to comply will be penalized.
This year, Bulgaria will be the honored country at TIF, which will run through to September 17 in Thessaloniki.
