Skiathos Island Partners with TUI to Increase Tourist Flows
As part of ongoing efforts to increase tourist flows to Skiathos, the island’s municipal authority announced a new partnership with TUI, one of the world’s leading tourism groups.
The news comes after the Municipality of Skiathos renewed its collaboration with British leisure travel group Jet2 earlier this month with the carrier now offering 19 weekly flights from Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburg, East Midlands, Leeds, Manchester, London and Newcastle to Skiathos airport.
TUI promotes Skiathos to German, Dutch markets
Through a joint advertising program with TUI, the municipality aims to promote Skiathos as a tourist destination to the German and Dutch markets.
“The Municipality of Skiathos has launched major international campaigns to promote the island through strategic partnerships with major airlines and tour operators. Our partnership with TUI, the world’s largest charter airline with six subsidiary airlines, the largest fleet in Europe and nine European-based travel agents, is one of them,” said Skiathos Mayor Thodoris Tzoumas.
The mayor went on to add that the campaign is aimed at extending the tourist season.
The partnership with TUI includes the online promotion of Skiathos through TUI’s website, blog posts, an island guide, and targeted mails to over 3,000 tourist agents.
“Greece is becoming more and more popular with TUI’s clientele, more and more of our customers are deciding to spend their holidays in Greece. Demand for small destinations and islands is particularly on the rise, among them Skiathos,” said Steffen Boehnke, product director at TUI Deutschland.
“We have a long-standing cooperation with Greece and we are particularly happy with the cooperation we are developing with the municipality, through which Skiathos is established as a new trending destination in the German-speaking markets. The Greek islands are unique and will be among Germans’ favorite destinations this summer,” he said.
Speaking at a company briefing in Berlin earlier this month, TUI Germany CEO Stefan Baumert confirmed demand was high for Greece and that overall bookings in the last few weeks had exceeded pre-Covid 2019 levels for the first time. In order to meet the interest, the German tour operator said it will be extending its season for Greece through to mid-November.
TUI Group is a leading global tourism group and operates worldwide. Headquartered in Germany, the Group covers the entire tourism value chain under one roof. This includes hotels and resorts with premium brands, cruise ships, leading tour operator brands, airlines and travel agencies.
