Jet2 Teams Up with Greek Local Gov’t to Promote Skiathos Island
In efforts to boost visitor numbers from the UK to Skiathos, the island’s municipal authority has teamed up with British leisure travel group Jet2 for the launch of a new campaign.
For a third consecutive year, the Municipality of Skiathos and Jet2 are working together to promote the Greek island to the British market. To meet the demand, 19 weekly flights are currently available from Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, East Midlands, Leeds, Manchester, London and Newcastle to Skiathos airport.
“The municipality is systematically implementing a strategic plan to promote Skiathos abroad with the aim, among others, of extending the tourist season,” said Skiathos Mayor Thodoris Tzoumas.
He went on to add that an key focus of the municipality’s strategy was working with major airlines and tour operators for the optimal promotion of Skiathos as a tourist destination. “We invest in partnerships and actions that we know will pay off,” Tzoumas said.
According to Janice Mather, head of airports & tourism organizations at Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, the leisure company has scheduled flights from eight UK airports to Skiathos, offering thousands of travelers from the UK the chance to visit the island.
Mather went on to add that she was confident of the “excellent results”.
The collaboration with Jet2 is part the municipality’s ongoing effort to promote Skiathos to new markets valued so far at over 300,000 euros.
Jet2 runs leisure flights through Jet2.com and package holidays through its tour operator Jet2holidays, the UK’s largest tour operator.
Brilliant would be better though if the cost of flights went down in price.
