Korean Air to Introduce Vegan Meals Inspired from Traditional Cuisine
Korean Air is set to offer a new Korean-style vegan meal option starting from March, as the airline seeks to cater to the growing vegan population.
The new eco-friendly meal options, which can also help reduce carbon emissions, are inspired by traditional temple cuisine and will be made using fresh vegetables and seasonal ingredients.
Passengers can expect dishes such as steamed barley rice with burdock, roasted shiitake mushrooms, mung bean jelly salad and roasted tofu with plum salsa sauce in all classes. For Prestige and First class passengers, ginkgo nut porridge and roasted yam with soybean paste will also be available. The airline plans to offer different types of Korean vegan dishes depending on the route and season.
Korean Air currently provides six types of vegetarian meal options, including vegan, lacto-ovo vegetarian, East Asian vegetarian, Hindu vegetarian, Jain vegetarian, and raw vegetarian.
Passengers traveling on all international routes departing from Korea in March can pre-order the Korean vegan meal option through Korean Air’s website, mobile application, or service center up to 24 hours prior to their flight’s departure.
In addition to the new meal option, Korean Air will also be introducing a carefully curated selection of wines onboard starting from next month.
The airline, following its collaboration with Marc Almert, the “World’s Best Sommelier 2019” named by the International Sommelier Association, aims to expand its wine selection, which has traditionally been composed mostly of French wines, with diverse wine labels from other European countries and continents.
The new selection will first be offered on the airline’s Los Angeles, New York, and Paris routes and will gradually be added to all routes within the year.
Korean Air has been serving the world for over 50 years, carrying more than 27 million passengers in 2019. With its global hub at Incheon International Airport, the airline serves 120 cities in 43 countries on five continents with a modern fleet of 156 aircraft and over 19,000 professional employees.
The airline has been granted numerous awards including 2021 Airline of the Year and 2022 Cargo Operator of the Year by Air Transport World and a 5-star COVID safety rating from Skytrax.
