Greece Extends Covid-19 Restrictions for Heraklion, Ikaria and Three More Areas

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection on Thursday extended extra precautionary measures on the regional units of Heraklion, Achaia, Ilia, Messinia and the municipality of Ikaria until September 16, to curb the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

The five Greek areas are still in “red” status on Greece’s color-coded Covid-19 risk-assessment map.

Argolida and Evritania go ‘red’

Also, as of Friday, September 10, the regional units of Argolida and Evritania will also be in “red” status due to a surge in Covid-19 cases. Residents will be obliged to follow emergency restrictions that include an overnight curfew and a 24-hour music ban, also until September 16.

More specifically, restrictions for Greek regional units and municipalities in “red” status include:

– a five-hour overnight curfew from 1am to 6am (movement is allowed only for work and health reasons).
– a 24-hour music ban at all cafes, restaurants, bars.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection reminds that private gatherings and events with the presence of more than 20 people are banned. Violators that organize private parties will be hit with fines amounting from 50,000 to 200,000 euros.

Greek health authorities on Thursday announced 2,170 new coronavirus cases, 384 patients on ventilators and 43 deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, the total number of cases in the country has reached 609,519. The Covid-19 death toll in Greece is 14,060.
