AEGEAN: New Int’l Routes, 1.5 Million More Available Seats in 2020

Greek carrier AEGEAN has announced the addition of 11 new international destinations to its 2020 schedule from its bases in Greece.

According to the announcement, the airline will increase the number of available seats by 1.5 million to 19.2 million in 2020.

In total, the carrier in 2020 will fly to 155 destinations with 65 aircraft, including the first six Airbus A320/321neo expected to be delivered in the first half of the year.

AEGEAN’s 11 new routes to international destinations will operate from its bases in Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as from its new base on Corfu. It will also add three new routes to its network from Birmingham, Paphos and Bilbao.

Moreover, the airline plans to increase capacity on 47 international routes by adding 1.1 million seats to its yearly activity, reaching a total of 11.4 million seats.

According to AEGEAN CEO Dimitris Geroyiannis, the airline’s schedule focuses on developing its Athens base and boosting activity to its bases in Thessaloniki and its new one on Corfu.

“We believe that through our business plan and partnerships with cities and regions across Greece, we will gradually create the right product combination to spread tourism [to more destinations] and enhance its quality features,” Geroyiannis said.

AEGEAN’s program for Thessaloniki includes routes from the northern Greek city to Barcelona, ​​Brussels, Rome, Milan, Zurich and Berlin, as well as a 25 percent increase in the number of available seats to international destinations.

The company is adding a total of eight new destinations from Thessaloniki – six international and two domestic. AEGEAN’s plans for Thessaloniki also include the investment in a new 500m2 lounge to enhance the passenger experience.

Corfu

AEGEAN’s new base on Corfu is its eighth in Greece and Cyprus and aims to cover Greece’s major source tourism markets.

The carrier in 2020 will launch its first Corfu – Paris scheduled flight service, as well 12 charter flights, and offer 95,000 additional seats.

AEGEAN’s Athens base will remain its main hub offering access to the country’s smaller islands. The carrier plans to add four new destinations from Athens to Bilbao, Nuremberg, Paphos and Birmingham.
