Greece’s G & A Mamidakis Foundation Establishes Art Prize
Committed to promoting Greek culture and to supporting the country’s human resources, the G & A Mamidakis Foundation announced this week the establishment of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation Art Prize to be bestowed for the first time this year.
The award will offer a full artists-in-residence program designed to encourage, support and promote artistic creation in Greece.
This said, the foundation invites Greek and Cypriot artists to submit by noon on 15 April 2019 their proposals of art projects that once completed will be part of the foundation’s permanent collection and will go on show at its outdoor museum on the premises of the Minos Beach Art Hotel in Agios Nikolaos, Crete.
The submitted ideas will be evaluated by a committee consisting of art experts, academics and professionals and the winner will be announced at the end of April.
A strong believer in the power of art, which is also an integral part of the overall tourist experience, Gina Mamidakis, the president of the foundation, underlined the importance of showcasing Greek culture, adding that “it is our obligation to support art as a means of a society’s cultural growth, and that is the ultimate goal of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation Art Prize”.
