Greece Offers Attractive Opportunities for Investments, Says German Ambassador

Greece offers attractive opportunities for investments in tourism, renewable energy sources, pharmaceuticals, freight services, food processing, and IT, Germany’s ambassador to Greece, Jens Plötner, told the Athens News Agency while the Southeast Europe-Germany Business & Investment Summit was taking place in Berlin, on Monday.

“As in previous years, so in 2017, Germany was the largest trading partner in Greece. The completion of the third ESM program this summer opened a new chapter for Greece in terms of investor interest,” Plötner said.

“We want to take this opportunity together with our Greek partners,” he added, noting that German companies’ loyalty to Greece over the last decade has paid off.

At the same time, Plötner stressed the importance of Greece’s highly skilled labor force, which he said is an additional incentive for German enterprises to invest.

On occasion of the same event, Greek Environment Minister Giorgos Stathakis told German broadcaster Deutsche Welle that Greece is open ground for new investments particularly in the energy sector.

“We have estimated that investment will reach 32 billion euros by 2030,” said Stathakis, adding that there is considerable “foreign investment, especially in the field of renewable energy, where investors have shown great interest in the last competitions”.

According to Stathakis the potential for investment is “enormous”, particularly in energy infrastructure and networks and in projects aiming to establish Greece into an energy hub such as the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) or the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) pipeline.

The Southeast Europe-Germany Business & Investment Summit is jointly organized by Economist Events and the German-Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce with the support of the Federation of German Industries and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
