Greek Hoteliers Federation Takes Part in Ecocity Forum 2018
The Hellenic Hoteliers Federation has announced its participation in the international conference Ecocity Forum 2018 “Circular Economy in Smart Cities”, a multilateral mega event taking place in Thessaloniki, focusing on the dissemination of the collective global knowledge on circular economy issues.
Organized by Ecocity, the event, which will run October 3-5 at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, also focuses on raising public awareness and mobilizing national and regional administration towards interconnectedness of today’s global challenges.
“The Hellenic Hoteliers Federation invests in the extroversion of Greek tourism, supports large international events and supports the environment, the circular economy and sustainable development,” the federation said in an announcement.
The federation will be represented by its president, Grigoris Tasios, who will chair a workshop titled “The Tourism Sector and Circular Economy” on Friday, October 5, at 2:30pm. The workshop will also include the analysis of the federation’s partner on sustainability issues and Travelife destination representative for Greece, Sotiris Mylonas, on the subject: “Waste management, recycling, circular economy in hotel business – Greek reality”.
The program content parameters, among others, include opportunities to address climate change, evaluate health benefits and adverse effects under the current situation and potential interventions, strengthen resilience, and work on solutions towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals and feedback on current local or regional plans and learning from best kindred practices from around the world.
Plenary and thematic sessions, workshops, round table meetings, academic and research papers, as well as exhibition of products and services related to urban sustainability and the circular economy will be held during the conference.
The Ecocity Forum 2018 will be attended by top representatives of bodies that play a leading role in shaping European policy, such as the European Environmental Agency (EEA), the European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Moreover, the Ecocity Circular Economy Guidebook, a manual with performance management and measurement indicators for Healthy Smart Cities, will be the innovative handout of the event.
The conference will be held under the auspices of Hellenic Republic President Prokopios Pavlopoulos and with the cooperation of Greek ministries, including the tourism ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
