Airports in Greece Record Passenger Traffic Rise in January-August

Passenger traffic in all Greek airports recorded an upward trend during the first eight months of the year, according to data of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).

The total number of passengers during the January-August period reached 44,454,920, showing an increase of 9.9 percent (over 4 million) compared to the corresponding period of 2017, when 40,443,451 passengers were recorded.

The total number of flights to Greek airports amounted to 368,581 (139,061 domestic and 229,520 international), recording an increase of 8,7 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2017 (339,085 flights).

In August alone, 10,071,285 passengers passed through Greek airports, up 9.4 percent on average.

The total number of flights at the country’s airports during that month amounted to 79,228, up by 10.3 percent compared to the corresponding period last year, when 71,832 flights were made.

During the same month, arrivals of foreign passengers reached 3,854,233 – 8.8 percent more than in 2017 (3,542,059 arrivals).

The busiest airports in Greece during August were Athens (2,879,537 passengers), Heraklion (1,467,934), Rhodes (1,045,016), Thessaloniki (835,474) and Corfu (700,982 passengers).

The airports that recorded the highest passenger traffic percentage increase in the January-August period were Sitia on Crete (110.1 percent rise), Milos (73.3 percent rise) and Naxos (62.3 percent rise).
