Airbnb Response Tool Offers Free Housing to Greek Fire Victims
Airbnb is making housing available to displaced individuals from this week’s wildfires in Greece, as well as to relief workers through its community-driven disaster support Open Homes project, inviting at the same time hosts in affected regions to make their homes available for free through to August 7.
The site displays the fire-afflicted regions across Greece, and indicates which hosts have opened their homes to evacuees for free and where accommodation is available.
Airbnb notes that true to its community sharing and support principle it has since 2012 helped thousands of people find safe accommodation while they try to rebuild their lives after natural disasters, wars, conflict, and other events.
Airbnb’s response tool is activated to create additional housing in or nearby affected areas, automatically contacting hosts in those areas asking if they have extra space to share. Hosts who do respond can list their spaces free of charge, while Airbnb waives all booking fees and provides the technology to facilitate community-driven disaster support.
In the meantime, disaster relief guests and hosts have access to Airbnb’s 24/7 customer support and policies, including the host guarantee.
