Kimolos Trail: Registration Deadline Approaching!

There are only five days to go until registration for the “1st Mountain Running Run: Kimolos Trail” closes on May 25.

The Greek island of Kimolos, on Sunday, June 3, for the first time will host a race on its traditional paths, offering an alternative opportunity for everyone to get to know and explore the destination.

The Kimolos Trail is the first race of the Cyclades Trail Cup 2018, a series of trail races that aim to promote the Cycladic Islands as a destination for alternative, cultural and athletic tourism.

Note: Registrations may also be made at the race secretariat on Saturday, June 2, between 10am – 6pm, in the Municipal Council Hall of Kimolos.

About the “1st Mountain Running Run: Kimolos Trail”

Routes

The Kimolos Trail will include two routes of nine and 21 kilometers. The starting point and finish line will be at the Elementary School of Chorio village. The bibs of the athletes will display the island’s map, along with other useful information such as the route and an emergency telephone number for safety reasons. In addition, rescuers of the Hellenic Red Cross and volunteers with first aid knowledge, will be located at specific points of the routes.

Winners and prizes

With the recently introduced CTC Point System, all routes of the Kimolos Trail will provide winners with points for the Cyclades Trail Cup 2018. The 21km route will award 83 points and the 9km route 33 points. The first three male and first three female runners who reach the finish line will be the winners the Kimolos Trail race. Special prizes will also be given to the first man and woman from Kimolos island.

The prize for the winners of the “1st Mountain Running Run: Kimolos Trail” is handmade and symbolic: a wooden plaque with the perforated silhouette of Kimolos’ famous “Skiadi” natural monument will be given to the 14 winners of the event in a traditional “dorva” handmade bag, courteously sponsored by the shops: Art Space “Arzantiera”, “Button”, “Boutique Arzantiera” and “Sousta – Vista”. All runners who cross the finish line will receive a handmade commemorative medal with the races logo, designed by the jewelry store “Kimolitho”. A draw for gifts will take place for the runners who did not manage to cross the finish line.

Side event: Conference for hoteliers

Also, on Friday, June 1, at 6pm at the Municipal Council of Kimolos, a conference for hoteliers and professionals will be held under the title “Cyclades Trail Cup: Management, Online Communication and Marketing for Upgrading and Increasing Reservations”. The conference will be held within the framework of the Cyclades Trail Cup and in cooperation with Cyclades Trail Cup 2018 gold sponsor Greek Travel Pages (GTP), under the auspices of the Municipality of Kimolos.

During the conference, professional hoteliers and accommodation owners will have the opportunity to be informed about alternative sports tourism and the Trail Running movement in Greece, as well as how sports tourism will help extend the tourist season and grow the hiking movement for their island.

Plans and methods on how online communications and hotel marketing can have an impact on the running community, as well as adjustments to amenities that professionals need to know about, will be presented. Professionals will be informed in clear terms about the techniques that will allow them to increase their bookings, even in low season. Participation in the conference is free.

Cultural events are also part of the Kimolos Trail, which will combine running with movie nights.

On the evening of Saturday, June 2 (depending on the weather), a movie night at a nearby beach will be held. Apart from the technical update, a movie with Greek subtitles will be featured at night by the sea with local treats.

* Special Tip – On Saturday afternoon, before the movie night, a traditional marriage will be held in the main village of Kimolos, giving all attending the chance to be part of the island’s customs.

For ferry tickets to Kimolos, the organizers are cooperating with Aegean Speed Lines and are offering all athletes and visitors a 30 percent discount. In order to book them, interested parties must first register for the Kimolos Trail race and then send an e-mail to the event’s official travel partner Travel Me to Milos at info@travelmilos.com and include their details (first name, surname, telephone number and “Kimolos Trail” in the subject line).

Aria Hotels on Kimolos is offering a 20 percent discount for the accommodation of the athletes and visitors for the Kimolos Trail. The discount is valid between June 1-3 and only for direct bookings made through the following email: kimolos@ariahotels.gr with the subject: “Kimolos Trail accommodation”.

In its third year, the Cyclades Trail Cup 2018 will host a number of trail running races in six alternative destinations of the Cyclades group. After the Kimolos Trail, the Folegandros Sunset Trail will take place, followed by the Ios Trail Race, the Andros Trail Race, the Kythnos Challenge and the Tinos Challenge.
