Athens International Airport (AIA) has been named “Best Airport in Southern Europe” at the Skytrax 2018 World Airport Awards, based on the votes of airline travelers from all over the world.

“The quality of the services offered and the travel experience at Athens Airport continue to be awarded…” said Ioanna Papadopoulou, AIA director of communications and marketing, as the new accolade came a few weeks after the airport’s distinction as one of the best in Europe by ACI World.

The Skytrax 2018 World Airport Awards honored AIA for the investment program it has implemented during the last few years, which included the aesthetic, operational and commercial upgrade of the airport.

“Our passengers enjoy the ‘new face’ of the airport every day, placing it first among the airports of Southern Europe in the prestigious Skytrax 2018 World Airport Awards. We continue with the same strategic goal: To carry out investment and upgrade programs and add new services and products for our travelers,” Papadopoulou added.

The Athens Airport also ranked 39th on the list of the World’s Top 100 Airports for 2018 compiled by Skytrax, up from the 53rd position in 2017. Singapore Changi Airport ranked first for the sixth consecutive year.

Furthermore, AIA was placed 5th among the World’s Most Improved Airports. Rome Fiumicino ranked first on the list, followed by Perth Airport in Australia in second place, the Calgary International Airport in Canada and the Taiwan Taoyuan in third and fourth respectively.
