Airbnb Celebrates 10 Years, Announces New Property Types
Following its decision to open its platform to hotel distribution, Airbnb has announced that it will soon offer customers four new property types, new tiers of service and a “Collections” selection for homes suited to every occasion.
During a press conference in San Francisco’s Masonic Auditorium on Thursday, which coincided with the company’s 10th anniversary, Airbnb unveiled a roadmap designed for its annual guest count to reach more than one billion in 10 years time.
Adding to its current roster of Shared Space, Private Room and Entire Home, Airbnb’s property listings will also include the new property types Vacation Home, Unique Space (listings will include treehouses), B&B and Boutique for hotels. All seven property types will launch to guests this summer.
In an aim to meet the needs of all travelers and offer the “perfect homes for every occasion”, the company also announced the launch of “Airbnb Collections”, which includes Airbnb for Family and Airbnb for Work. “Collections” for Social stays, Weddings, Honeymoons, Group getaways and Dinner parties are expected to launch later this year.
Airbnb will also launch “Airbnb Plus”, a new tier of homes on the platform that have been inspected and verified in person against a 100+ point checklist covering cleanliness, comfort and design. The new tier is kicking off with 2,000 homes in 13 cities.
Moreover, following last year’s acquisition of Luxury Retreats, Airbnb announced “Beyond by Airbnb”. Launching this Spring, the new tier is designed to offer custom designed trips, including fine homes, custom experiences and world-class hospitality.
Aiming to invest back in its community, later this year Airbnb will launch a revamped Superhost program and a new guest membership program.
Launched 10 years ago, Airbnb’s platform counts 4.5 million places to stay in 81,000 cities.
According to Airbnb, over the last 10 years, guests have checked into an Airbnb home more than 300 million times.
