All Eyes on Greece: Athens Marathon to Welcome Athletes from 101 Countries
Amateur and professional runners from as far Andorra, the Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Antarctica, Samoa and Madagascar will be in the Greek capital on November 12 to compete in the 35th “Athens Marathon. Τhe Authentic”, the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) announced this week.
Athletes from 101 countries will test their mettle in the biggest running event of the year with the number of UK runners at 1,054 taking the lead followed contestants from Italy at 1,000, 834 from the US, 815 from France and 741 from Germany.
In the meantime, all eyes are on Athens to see who will win this year’s AIMS Best Marathon Runner Award (BMR). The global distance running organization, the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), will hold its annual award dinner reception at the Megaron Mousikis on November 10. This year’s BMR nominees are Eliud Kipchoge and Geoffrey Kipkorir Kirui in the men’s category and Rose Chelimo and Mary Keitany in the women’s group.
